Sport and outdoor earbuds: fit, stability and exposure

Sport and outdoor earbuds are chosen for staying in place and surviving sweat, rain and movement. This guide covers the selection questions.

Fit comes first

Running, training and outdoor work all shake a bud loose. Buyers look at ear hooks, fins and tip sizes, and at how the bud sits when the wearer moves their jaw. A fit that works standing still can fail on a run, so the intended activity should be named in the inquiry.

Exposure questions

Sweat, rain and dust are the three exposures. A rating that covers sweat does not automatically cover immersion, and a rating for rain does not cover dust. Name the exposure in the inquiry and ask what the rating actually covers, rather than accepting a general waterproof claim.

Outdoor speakers, briefly

Outdoor Bluetooth speakers face the same question from the other side: they must be heard outdoors, survive the same exposures, and keep playing for the length of the activity. The same rule applies — name the activity, the exposure and the playing time needed, and ask for figures.
